Since ‘And Just Like That’ (AJLT) premiered its sophomore season last week, social media has been abuzz with its styling— from Valentino couture to Judith Lieber bags and more. Among the luxury and fashion heavyweights, stars an emerging label from India: jewellery designer Ridhi Asrani’s eponymous label. Seema, a principal cast member played by Sarita Choudhury, wears one of her pieces—the ‘Dwar’ earrings in the first episode.
Asrani, a big ‘Sex and the City’ fan calls the inclusion serendipitous. “I was excited to see [AJLT, Season one] had Seema, and loved the character Lisette who is a jewellery designer,” she says, adding that a DM to Danny Santiago, one of the show’s stylists, appreciating their work culminated in the sourcing. The Dwar earrings are inspired by temple door-knockers—its maximalist east-meets-east aesthetic, signature to Asrani. The brand’s design vocabulary draws from temple bells and tomb tops, floral garlands and other quintessentially Indian motifs—check out other pieces such as the Kalasha ear cuffs, Mallika hand-gloves (inspired by haathphools) and Mala choker. Asrani hopes the show will take her label to new audiences, especially outside India. “Half of my website traffic is always from US; I do see this as an incredible opportunity that can open a lot of new doors for my brand,” says Asrani who is now working on her new collection.
